At Campus + Community Planning, we process applications for several types of permits, licenses and other applications--including Community Service Cards.
Development Permit
A Development Permit is required for any project which involves a new building whether permanent, semi-permanent or temporary, an addition to an existing building, or the moving of an existing building where such building or addition exceeds 10 sq metres in gross floor area. A Development Permit is also required for a project which involves significant changes to the exterior appearance of existing buildings and any change to the UBC site such as street access, loading docks, fencing, landscaping, street furniture, site lighting or anything similar that would impact the built environment.
Street and Landscape Permit
Identify the street/location for your proposed project, provide a scope of work, estimated cost of construction and review the Terms + Conditions for any work.
Building Permit (Major and Minor Capital Projects)
A Building Permit is required for all construction regulated under the BC Building Code and UBC Development & Building Regulations including new buildings, additions to existing buildings, renovations to existing buildings, and change of use of an existing building.
Building Permit (Tenant Improvement in Strata Buildings)
The owners of strata titled premises at UBC also need to apply for a Building Permit to undertake renovations within their unit. This permit covers new construction and alterations, demolitions, temporary buildings and structures and accessory buildings under the contract value of $50,000. More information can be found in the brochure, Planning to Renovate?, for tenant improvements in strata buildings at UBC.
Plumbing and Sprinkler Permit
Identify the name and address of the building where you intend to undertake work to the plumbing and/or sprinkler system, as well as a description of the project, and appropriate contact information.
Occupancy Permit
Occupancy Permits or Final Building Inspections are required to occupy any building or part thereof for which a Building Permit has been obtained. All required documentation shall be in place before making an application for an occupancy permit. The University may issue interim occupancy permits where in its opinion to do so would not jeopardize life-safety.
Fire Hydrant Connection Permit
Fire hydrant permits are mandatory in order for the University to meet the requirements of a number of codes and regulations, the most critical being Section 6.6.4 of the British Columbia Fire Code.
Business Licenses
Whether you are running a business out of your home or on other premises in a Neighbourhood on the UBC Vancouver Point Grey campus, you are required to apply for a license with Campus + Community Planning.
Community Service Application
Campus + Community Planning issues Community Services Cards only to residents of Acadia Park Student Family Housing and University Apartments. The card allows the holder to obtain free access to community library services (UBC Library and Vancouver Public Library), as well as discounted rates at UBC's Athletics and Recreation facilities.
